Day 15 - Saturday 3rd August

Today we were woken to the sound of Indian music being played on speakers around Kodaikanal, which, at 5 in the morning, makes a more distressing sound than the cleaner bashing our clothes against rocks back at Sri Jayendra at dawn. Over the weekend there was a religious festival in the area and music was played for 72 hours straight over the weekend, which makes sleeping and relaxing all the more pleasant!

After a filling breakfast, at the hotel, we set off and explored our surroundings. First, we found a football/cricket pitch which included a stand to sit in. We happily watched the local match for a good 30 minutes where we witnessed some great pieces of bowling, batting and driving from the locals who used the pitch as a road!

Following this, we walked uphill admiring the stunning views looking down into the valleys and found the local shops where we went shopping for presents for everyone's families! Also we walked past a butcher where a few of us saw a man taking a knife to a goat skull which was a unusual view for some of us.

The rest of the afternoon was one of pure relaxation. We could either walk back to the hotel or go look at the Kodaikonal Lake. Miss Fitz, JMB and Miss Ellery went to the lake with Tom McL and Hannah where they found a small boat of which they could use to row on, even though I wasn't there, I knew that this would have excited Tom and Hannah! From what I was told, it was a lot of fun and very enjoyable!

Those who went back to the hotel either read their books, played table tennis or power-napped.

Later that evening after we feasted on our dinner, we headed to the garden where we set up a large bonfire and played an improvised singing game where we had two teams of seven against each other and we each had to sing a song which was related to a designated category.
